Dog Stress & Anxiety Solutions
Dog Stress & Anxiety Solutions - Many of the behavior problems that dogs have are related to stress or anxiety. These problems can manifest in many ways ranging from destructive chewing, defecating inside the house, barking, whining, growling, fear aggression or hyperactivity.
Dog stress and anxiety can be caused by many different reasons. Yelling at the dog too much can turn a calm dog into a nervous one. Constant change can make a dog insecure. New babies or the introduction of other pets can cause stress or anxiety. Travel is stressful for many dogs, as is thunderstorms, firworks or loud noises.
For severe cases of separation anxiety, especially where the dog is harming himself or your property, it is recommended that you consult with a veterinarian to determine the best method of treatment. For less severe cases of stress or anxiety we've provided the following tips and natural products to help reduce your dog's stress and anxiety.
Exercise - A tired dog is a less anxious dog! Take your dog for more walks and let him run around more often. Toys like the Chuckit or the Ball Launcher help give your dog a good workout while saving your arm. The Kong Flyer is a popular flying disk that is softer than a hard frisbee yet durable and made by Kong.
Downplay Leaving the House - Try not to make it a big deal when you leave the house to avoid promoting separation anxiety. This can lead to destructive chewing, whining or constant barking. When you leave, give your puppy a favorite chew toy or one that he hasn't seen for a while. It will keep him immediately entertained and him to help forget that you've left. Rubbing your scent on the toy can also help.
Gradually Stay Out Longer - Arrange for several short departures and arrivals throughout the day. Gradually lengthen each absence as your dog adjusts.
Natural Stress Relievers - A number of all natural or homeopathic stress relieving products are now available for dogs or cats to help with travel, thunderstorms, general anxiety, or other stress related problems. We've provided the most popular below:
